Q: How many women attend Kettering?

A: 431 women are currently enrolled at Kettering. That's about 17% of the total student body, a figure comparable to other engineering schools.

Q: How many women teach at Kettering?

A: 23 women teach here, and they teach in all departments. Also, many other women hold key senior positions at the university, including two administrative vice presidents and several program directors.

Q: Why is this a good time for women to pursue degrees in engineering, math, or science?

A: Because the demand for engineers has never been greater! And, employers recognize that women bring valuable and unique perspectives to technology and science. Competitive companies are not about to overlook the talent and potential of half the population! Our placement rate for women students is nearly 100%.

A: Our graduates pursue careers in a wide variety of fields, including business, science, medicine, law, and education; not to mention engineering! The critical thinking and analytical skills you learn at Kettering will prepare you for just about any field you choose.

A: We offer academic and social supports to help you thrive at Kettering and succeed, first as a student and later as a professional. Throughout each academic year, we sponsor mentoring programs, study and time management skills workshops, career explorations, recreational opportunities, and cultural events to help you get the most out of your college experience, and also to help you balance work and play.

Q: Are there sororities at Kettering?

A: Yes. Six sororities are represented on campus. About 35% of our women students participate in them; the other 65% of women students are unaffiliated, or "independents."

Q: What about women's athletics?

A: Women students participate in a more than 20 competitive and recreational sports. Some sports activities are for women only, others are co-ed. Our Recreation Center provides a state-of-the-art indoor forum and Kettering Park features 25 acres of outdoor recreation facilities. Most of our students take part in campus athletics.

Q: What types of leadership opportunities does Kettering offer women students?

A: Many! Student government, honor societies, professional societies, sororities, and campus clubs all offer our women students opportunities to learn and practice leadership skills. Our Robot Society, which annually recognizes excellence in student leadership, recently inducted six women, among nine honorees.

Q: What are some of the student activities on campus?

A: Salsa dancing, scuba diving, ethnic dinners, and jazz are just a few of the activities that students participate in at Kettering. You can join more than 75 different campus clubs and organizations or, start your own! Campus-wide events include dances, lectures, games, and movies.

Q: Where do women live on campus?

A: All freshwomen live in Thompson Hall, Kettering's co-ed dorm. Upper class students may live in our Campus Village Apartments, located directly across Chevrolet Street from the Campus Center. Or, you can move off campus after your freshman year. Many of our students live in nearby apartments and houses.

Q: How safe is Kettering?

A: Very safe! Our annual crime statistics confirm this, and a campus safety report is available for you and your parents to review. When you tour our campus, you'll see that we maintain a number of important security features to ensure your safety.

A: More than you ever imagined! Concerts, films, sporting events, and bands entertain Kettering students throughout the year. Also, Detroit and Ann Arbor are less than an hour away—both offer a wide range of fun and interesting activities for students.
